The new engine defines movement through instructions, which are applied each to a single limb with a certain time and duration value. The orchestration of instructions applied to several limbs provide the complex information needed to analyze and describe the movement of the human body.
This score displays the times and durations of moving limbs of the previous port de bras example. Movements of single limbs are symbolized by the colored rectangular regions. When the color is changing, some property of the movement changes, for example the speed or direction. A white section denotes a pause, that means the limb doesn’t change its angular relation to its neighboring limb.
The movement instruction approach provides a high degree of flexibility and accuracy for the exploration of movement style and quality by exposing distinct movement properties: Which limb is moving – when - for how long – and on what path.
The accessibility of those properties may assist in the analysis of historical material and yield a variety of possible animated representations of existing static sources.
