The following example will demonstrate, how this process of modifying movement properties may look like.
The duration values of head and chest movements of the previous example will be shortened.
This leads to a distinct variation:
The shortened head rotation now finishes ahead of the opening arm movement and the returning rotation is delayed until the last moment. By modifying these details of coordination the stylistic properties of the animation have been clearly changed.
Producing variations with that ease and efficiency would not have been possible with a traditional key frame animation approach.

This fact may be emphasized by the following example:
The illustration on the left shows the necessary key frames, if the port de bras examples were defined in a traditional key frame based manner. The key frames are marked as colored lines on top of the movement instruction data. The purple lines show the key frames for the first example, and the green lines are added for the second example with the fast head. A key frame always defines a posture for the whole body. As opposed to that, the movement instruction data is structured on a much finer level, giving much more possibilities for modifications and manipulations.
